Mourners congregated today on the home of fallen Nyeri Governor Nderitu Gachagua in Hinga, Mathira, to bid him final farewell on Monday march 6th.
Among the mourner’s present included President Uhuru Kenyatta, former President Mwai Kibaki, opposition leader Raila Odinga, over 35 governors, deputy governors, senators, MPs and MCAs from Nyeri county and other parts of the country.
Opposition leader Raila Odinga eulogized Nderitu Gachagua as one of the few leaders who allowed him to campaign in the county, in his speech he said the event was to celebrate Gachagua life and therefore he avoided touching on political issues. President Uhuru Kenyatta agreed with him and stated he never thought he would send off Gachagua and even end up agreeing with Raila.
“I never thought i will be here to send off Gachagua and even agree with Raila at the same event, ya Mungu ni mengi,” president Uhuru said as the crowd roared with laughter.
The late Governor Nderitu Gachagua passed on February 24th 2017 at 2:15 am while receiving treatment at the Royal Marsden Hospital in London where he was receiving treatment for pancreatic cancer
